Global Social Enterprise Initiative Partners with Mobile Internet Content Coalition

Program to Provide Young Minds and Entrepreneurs with Innovative Business Modeling for Social Good

Georgetown University’s McDonough School of Business announced today that its Global Social Enterprise Initiative (GSEI) has partnered with the Mobile Internet Content Coalition (MICC) to support social good through mobile internet applications and innovations to create economic value and new opportunities for individuals, organizations and society. The partnership will equip young minds and rising entrepreneurs with the mobile tools necessary to carry social entrepreneurship into its next generation.

The partnership includes collaboration on MICC’s annual summit, Mobilizing Mobile, which will be held at Georgetown’s McDonough School of Business on November 15, 2011. The event will introduce policymakers and thought leaders to the obstacles and opportunities associated with innovation growth surrounding mobile communications.

Additionally, the partnership will provide student entrepreneurs an opportunity to showcase their innovations through the Mobile Pitch Competition and App Development Boot Camp to be held as part of the summit. The event will connect undergraduate and graduate students from Georgetown University with business leaders, teach students to develop and commercialize business ideas, and culminate in a final pitch competition on November 18 with a cash prize for the winning student team.

“All consumers, especially those who rely heavily on mobile technology for their basic needs, will reap the benefit of an environment where business leaders work with young innovators,” said Bill Novelli, GSEI founder and distinguished professor of the practice at Georgetown McDonough. “We are looking forward to partnering with the MICC to educate future and current leaders across sectors on how mobile content is integral for conducting business and delivering social change in the 21st century.”

“Mobile is the industry of tomorrow, and we want to put the best mobile tools in the hands of the best entrepreneurs, the generation that has grown up surrounded by this technology,” added Amanda Antico-Majkowski, MICC executive director. “Mobile programs of all kinds need to survive in an environment in which competition flourishes and the best ideas succeed.”

The Mobile Internet Content Coalition is a DC-based nonprofit organization established in September 2010 in response to emerging threats to the future of mobile Internet. Based on the principles that mobile Internet should be open, its content universally accessible like that of the wired web and not subject to the whims of access providers, MICC advocates on behalf of content providers. Its vision is freedom of consumer choice and its mission is to shape policy to ensure an open mobile Internet ecosystem for innovation and entrepreneurship.
