Transforming Access to Healthcare

September 6, 2013: The Global Social Enterprise Initiative (GSEI) and the National Restaurant Association (NRA) partnered to host the, “Transforming Access to Healthcare” roundtable at Georgetown University’s McDonough School of Business. The roundtable brought together stakeholders to discuss the challenges faced by the restaurant and food service industry as it prepares to implement the Affordable Care Act (ACA). Participants included leaders fromSilver DinerSodexoLettuce Entertain You EnterprisesUnitedHealthcare, the National Conference of State Legislatures, and other experts.

Facilitated by Ladan Manteghi, Executive Director of GSEI, the objectives of the roundtable was to:

  • Inform the NRA’s approach to crafting and delivering value-add tools, resources, and healthcare benefits to increase access for members and their employees
  • Inform government leaders and regulators, elected officials, health insurance providers, restaurateurs, employees, media, and others of the operational challenges the industry faces in implementing ACA, and how the industry is tackling those challenges; and
  • Position the NRA and its members as leading employers in promoting and shaping a healthier workforce, and by extension, families.

Key findings and recommendations from the discussion will be published in a summary report.
