Georgetown University Energy Prize

Georgetown University’s program on Science in the Public Interest (SPI) has partnered with the McDonough School of Business’ Global Social Entrepreneurship Initiative (GSEI) to design the Georgetown University Energy Prize (GUEP). The prize came about from the idea that solutions to sustainability need to come from communities. By offering an incentive purse to communities, the GUEP team hope to leverage investment to encourage sustainable changes that increase energy efficiency in all aspects of a community.

Among the GUEP team are Professor Francis Slakey, Co-Director of SPI, Professors Bill Novelli and Ladan Manteghi of GSEI, and Dr. John Shore, former Senior Director of the Progressive Automotive X-Prize competition. An Advisory Board consisting of energy and prize experts across the country has also been established.

The first GUEP Workshop was held on March 16, 2012 at the McDnough School of Business at Georgetown University to discuss the prize design concepts with leaders in the energy field.
